Cyprus Health Tourism Council became a member of the World Disability Association at the international congress attended by 85 countries from 6 continents.

It was reported that the 6th General Assembly of the World Disability Union (WDU) approved the membership of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council to the union.
In the statement, it was stated that the Council was represented by Dr. Ahmet Savaşan at the general assembly and that Savaşan also made a speech on the health tourism opportunities of Northern Cyprus and the opportunities of advanced age tourism at the “Global Accessible Tourism Congress” held within the scope of the organization.

Explaining that legal arrangements have been made for the disabled both in the world and in Northern Cyprus, Savaşan underlined that the common point of these legal arrangements is that all disabled people fully and equally benefit from fundamental freedoms and human rights.

Stating that it is the right of all individuals in the society to engage in tourism activities, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan explained that efforts are underway in Northern Cyprus to bring disabled tourism to the country under the leadership of the state. Stating that the target is to develop both domestic and international disabled tourism, Savaşan pointed out that the main thing here is to increase the interest of the private sector in the subject.

Explaining that they are trying to ensure that the accommodation and transportation sectors realize investments for disabled people as a profit-making investment, not as a legal obligation, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan said that their aim is to ensure that disabled people in Northern Cyprus participate in tourism, and that Northern Cyprus also gets the share it deserves from disabled tourism, which is not among the existing types of tourism today but has reached an important economic value in the world.

Stating that the Health Tourism Council is working to produce projects together with non-governmental organizations, especially the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, in order for Northern Cyprus to become an “Elderly and Disabled Friendly Island” and to be accessible, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan said that their aim is to offer an accessible tourism destination to disabled and elderly individuals and to ensure that Northern Cyprus is preferred in this field.
